A significant milestone has been surpassed for Turkey’s long-range air defense system, SİPER. The mass production acceptance tests of the SİPER Product-1 missile have been successfully completed. This development was announced by Haluk Görgün, President of Defense Industries.
The SİPER Product-1 missile can now enter mass production.
Görgün stated that this achievement marks a critical milestone in Turkey’s layered air defense structure. SİPER is designed for high-altitude operations and, with its performance in tests, has solidified its place in the Turkish Armed Forces inventory.
Görgün stated, “The Steel Dome, established with national solutions at low, medium, and high altitude layers, is becoming more powerful every day. SİPER, with its range, precision, and effectiveness against a variety of targets, is becoming one of the most strategic security shields of the Sky Homeland.” Developed entirely with domestic and national resources, the system aims to create a defense network that leaves no gaps against air threats.
SİPER is designed to provide long-range protection against threats such as enemy aircraft, cruise missiles, and air-to-ground munitions during peacetime and crisis periods. The system plays a crucial role in protecting friendly forces, particularly in the front lines and strategic areas, by limiting, delaying, or neutralizing these threats.
SİPER Product-1 offers a range of over 100 kilometers. The missile is 5.4 meters long and 370 mm in diameter. The canister dimensions are 6450 x 850 x 800 mm, and these dimensions also apply to Product-2, which was developed in conjunction with Product-1. The missile features an inertial guidance system guided via a global positioning-supported data link.
The system uses an active radar seeker and is equipped with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead. Transportability is achieved via a semi-trailer platform. SİPER Product-1 can be used against combat aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, and air-to-ground munitions. The system was developed in partnership with ROKETSAN, ASELSAN, and TÜBİTAK SAGE. Following SİPER Product-1, which was added to the Turkish Armed Forces inventory in 2024, development of SİPER Product-2, with a range of 150 kilometers, is ongoing. Product-2 will constitute the second phase of the system, offering a wider range and improved targeting capabilities.
